GCCAC Delta Academy Application
The Delta Academy was created out of an urgent sense that bold action was needed to save our young females (ages 11-14) from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures. Delta Academy provides an opportunity for local Delta chapters to enrich and enhance the education that our young teens receive in public schools across the nation.
The goals for Delta Academy are:
To promote scholarship in math, science and technology and/or careers where minority women are scarcely represented
To increase their opportunities to provide service in the form of leadership
To promote sisterhood defined as cultivation and maintenance of relationships
To serve as a catalyst for academic excellence among our young African American girls
To prepare young girls for full participation as leaders in the 21st Century
Criteria for Participation
Admission into Delta Academy will be held once a year. The following criteria will be used to determine eligibility:
Entering or attending middle school (grades 6-8) and/or ages 11-14
Submit a completed application
Submit all applicable consent forms to participate with parental signature
Submit a Code of Conduct with parental signature
Attend the mandatory student/parent orientation session

A natural outgrowth and expansion for the continuation of the highly successful Dr. Betty Shabaaz Delta Academy: Catching the Dreams of Tomorrow, Delta Gems was created to catch the dreams of African American at-risk, adolescent girls aged 14-18 in grades 9-12. Delta GEMS provides the frame work to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a CAN DO attitude.
The goals for Delta GEMS are:
To instill the need to excel academically
To provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success
To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures high school and beyond
To create compassionate, caring, and community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.
Criteria for Participation
Admission into Delta GEMS will be held once a year. The following criteria will be used to determine eligibility:
Entering or attending high school (grades 9-12) and/or ages 14-18
Submit a completed application

GCCAC EMBODI PROGRAM APPLICATION
EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) is a youth development program of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. It is a national initiative focusing on the plight of African American males with the support and action of other major organizations.
Locally, the Greater Columbia County Alumnae Chapter has implemented EMBODI to further strengthen their outreach and impact of youth programs, combining collaborative efforts to provide positive outcomes for African American male youth, in grades 9-12, to build opportunities to develop independence.
EMBODI is symbolic of empowering young African American males to immerse themselves in African and African American culture and see themselves as a person of great worth who can take his place with a life of meaning and accomplishment. The programming focuses on education, culture, family and community, personal, social, and emotional factors, resilience and responsibility, leadership and mentorship, preventative health care and mental health counseling, financial; safety, and protection, conflict resolution and restorative justice, scholarship, and service-learning.
The goals of EMBODI are:
• to improve academic performance through self-efficacy and experiential learning.
• to provide access and application of diverse learning opportunities through cultural and community support.
• to reduce negative responses to conflict through restorative justice and resolutions.
• to participate in community service activities through outreach.
• to create opportunities to develop a higher level of self-confidence and resiliency.
• to provide activities to increase community involvement, family bonding, and interaction.
• to seek recreational activities to develop positive social skills and improve teamwork effort.
• to provide opportunities for cohesion by the involvement of families in structured activities in safe community environments.
• to provide opportunities for interaction with community professionals and positive male roles.
• to provide career exposure
Criteria for Membership
Application for membership into the DELTA EMBODI program is held once a year.
The following criteria will be used to determine eligibility:
• Entering or attending high school in the fall (grades 9-12)
• Submit a completed application with a picture
• Resides in Appling, Chennault, Evans, Grovetown, Harlem, Lincolnton, or
Martinez
• Submit two (2) recommendation forms from any of the following: teacher or
guidance counselor, employer, minister, sponsor or advisor of affiliated
organization
• Young men who have potential but need guidance, support, and skills to achieve
success.
• Young men who are interested in developing leadership skills.
• Young men who are actively pursuing college and/or career options.
• Young men who need encouragement and support in pursuit of higher learning.
• Young men identified by authorized partners of Delta chapters.
